What is PFAS?
PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a group of synthetic chemicals used in various products for their water resistant and grease resistant properties. Often referred to as "forever chemicals," they are persistent in the environment and have been linked to serious health risks, including cancer and hormone disruption. Click here for a more detailed understanding of PFAS.
Where is PFAS found?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are found in a surprisingly wide range of places due to their widespread use and persistence in the environment:
Consumer products:
- Nonstick cookware (like Teflon)
- Water-resistant clothing and outdoor gear
- Stain-resistant furniture and carpets
- Food packaging (microwave popcorn bags, fast food wrappers, pizza boxes)
- Cosmetics and personal care products
- Dental floss
Environmental contamination:
- Drinking water, especially near manufacturing facilities, military bases, and airports
- Soil and groundwater at industrial sites
- Fish and wildlife in contaminated areas
- Rainwater and snow globally
Occupational settings:
- Firefighting foam (AFFF) used at airports and military bases
- Chemical manufacturing plants
- Chrome plating facilities
- Textile treatment facilities
In the human body:
PFAS have been detected in the blood of nearly all Americans tested, accumulating over time through exposure from various sources.
What can I do?
Order a PFAS water testing kit from us by clicking this button (start testing). Your testing kit will include PFAS free bottles and gloves, directions on how to take the water sample, and a return mailing box.
What is the sample turnaround time?
Sample turnaround time is 7 business days from the time we receive your sample. Rush service is available with overnight sample shipping to our lab. With rush service, you can get your results within 3 business days of us receiving your sample.
What is a field blank and why do I need one?
A field blank is a PFAS free water sample that is required when the sample is over the PFAS reporting limit. Testing the field blank helps rule out any possible sampling technique contamination.
